LOL, OK, you’re right, it is just sooo negative of me not to see that battered-woman jokes are funny! I see now that it’s hilarious because she is from a rural area. What an upside!! Holy cow, I am laughing so hard.
Fungle, I am not some tight-ass meanie who can’t see the lighter side. I generally love this site. But abuse is not funny – I don’t care who is portrayed and I don’t care if it’s photoshopped (which I realize maybe it is) to make a “funny” point. Abuse is not OK and I am just baffled as to how anybody could think it’s funny in any situation.
It’s funny because it’s such a stereotypical depiction of the perceived rural Redneck “way of life”, it has nothing to do with abuse, nor with rural life itself, but with an expected, generalized stereotype. Also it is most likely “shopped”. If you look closely enough and scrutinize the things that humans find funny, you will find that most of them involve the misfortune of others, thus, people falling over and having accidents have always been a source of laughter for us since time immemorial. The fact of the matter is that it’s human nature to take joy at other people’s expense.
I can’t believe you are continuing to argue for laughing at battered women. I’ll be sure to tell the girls at the shelter to swing by for a chuckle. As for the ones whose husbands didn’t stop in time, well, here’s hoping they’ve got internet in heaven.
